Levaquin

Levoflaxacin, most commonly known as Levaquin, is a prescription antibiotic drug often used to treat bacterial infections, like urinary tract sinus infections, skin, and kidney infections, as well as pneumonia.  Levaquin has earned billions of dollars for its manufacturer, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals.

Levaquin has been linked to some very serious and painful side effects, most notably spontaneous tendon ruptures and tendon injuries.  It can also lead to peripheral neuropathy, or damage to the nervous system.  In many cases, these issues arise even long after Levaquin therapy has ceased.  Many patients suffer lifelong disabilities.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has required the makers of levoflaxacin to include “black box warnings” in their packaging materials relating to tendon ruptures, muscle pain and breathing problems that may arise from taking the drug.  The medical care required to treat these injuries can be very uncomfortable, inconvenient, painful, and extraordinarily expensive.  The negative effect that levoflaxacin has had on the lives of thousands of patients cannot be understated.
