Topamax
Topamax (Topiramate) is an anticonvulsant drug manufactured by Ortho-McNeil, a division of Johnson & Johnson. It was first approved by the U.S. FDA in 1998 for treatment of patients suffering seizures due to epilepsy and other disorders. In 2004, it was approved for treatment of migraine headaches.
Topamax has been associated with serious birth defects, like Cleft Palate and Cleft Lip, when taken by women who are pregnant. In early 2011, the FDA mandated that the warnings inside Topamax packaging be changed to strengthen the language regarding the possibility that the drug may cause these birth defects.
If you or someone you know has given birth to a child with Cleft Palate or Cleft Lip after taking Topamax while pregnant, contact the attorneys at The Sanders Law Firm today to discuss how to protect your legal rights
