TRASYLOL
In 1993, the FDA approved Trasylol for use in the United States to control bleeding in patients undergoing open heart surgery and to reduce the need for blood transfusion. In January 2006, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study finding that patients who had taken Trasylol had a significantly higher risk of stroke; heart failure and kidney failure.
In December, 2006, the FDA instructed Bayer, the manufacturer of Trasylol, to update its product label with a new warning about these risks, and it limited its Trasylol approval to patients “at increased risk for blood loss and blood transfusion” during open heart surgery.
If you or someone you know underwent open heart surgery and had kidney problems or suffered a stroke soon after the surgery, please contact the Trasylol attorneys at The Sanders Law Firm for a free, no obligation consultation.
